Audiobook Review: Money Master the Game by Tony Robbins

July 2, 2016 By LovingOurHome.com Leave a Comment

A review of MONEY Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins, an audiobook that’s now available at AUDIBLE.COM (free for first time listeners).

I have been seeking financial guidance for years, but never had the discipline to sit down and really read a complete money guide. While browsing Audible recently, I finally found just what I needed — an audiobook about pursuing financial freedom, investing and all of the important topics that have eluded me in the past. It’s called MONEY Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins.

I trust Tony’s advice when it comes to motivation and having a positive self-image — the guy has gotten results on so many fronts — so naturally I was interested in his money advice book. His steps are very clear and concise, but you have to listen when you can give your full concentration and attention. This is an audiobook that you listen to in nuggets over an extended period of time and add plenty of bookmarks.

Money Master the Game book by Tony Robbins

One of his suggestions was to invest in an index fund (a mutual fund tied to a stock index like the S&P 500) instead of going with a fund that hand picks varied stocks, or worse, picking individual stocks on your own which almost always goes sour for regular people who know little to nothing about companies and the stock market. I have lost money on several occasions trying to buy individual stocks.

I also learned about long-term fixed rate annuities and an “all seasons portfolio” that maximizes return while minimizing risk. He talked about making some of these financial vehicles more accessible to younger people like myself, as many of them require that you be a minimum age.

There are still some concepts I’m trying to grasp as a beginner, but this Money Master the Game audiobook helped make things easier to understand. I imagine that certain people in the financial industry really won’t like this book because it encourages education in the common consumer and reveals the truth about the unnecessary fees charged by brokerages. So don’t trust the very negative reviews — you have to read and research these concepts for yourself.

Toward the end of the book, Tony gives a few stories about how he was finally able to conquer his financial struggles. He suggests giving more to other people if you want more blessings in your own life. And not just giving in order to receive, but because you really want to in your heart.

While I haven’t yet been able to start an index fund as of this publishing, I have taken the first steps toward doing so. I’ve significantly reduced my spending money on unnecessary items so that I can start saving toward financial freedom. One of my problems was deciding between a “want” and a “need”. For example, I use to spend almost $5 a day, 3 days a week at a coffee house. That meant that I was spending $15 a week or $60 a month JUST on coffee. Nowadays I don’t really drink coffee as much, but when I do it’s at home using an affordable brew. Another weakness is the grocery store, where I stock up on food even when I already have plenty at home. Now I make every effort to stay home instead of wandering past a supermarket.

Tony Robbins’ audiobook was the perfect start in assisting me towards gaining financial independence, and eventually freedom. I feel that my financial future is looking brighter and I’m motivated. At one point in the book, the narrator’s voice switched back over to Tony’s booming voice and I jumped to attention. He has a strong voice with an even stronger message.

I think that I’m now “at attention” in more ways than one when it comes to my finances and money matters. So I totally recommend this book to anyone who is a novice when it comes to financial matters, and those who are searching for financial freedom and independence.

I would give MONEY Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins 4.5 stars.

5 Ways Audiobooks Can Improve Your Life (and the World)

March 21, 2015 By LovingOurHome.com Leave a Comment

As early as the 1920s, people were using seminars and books on tape to learn more and better themselves. Great minds of the 20th century like Napoleon Hill, Dale Carnegie and Earl Nightingale recorded their speeches and talks — they’ve been heard by millions of people since then. Millions of people have been helped by their timeless words.

Today books on tape have largely been replaced with audiobooks, like the ones offered at Audible. You can now play your book of choice on your cellphone, iPad, tablet or laptop. Audible also offers audiobooks for free to new users who have an Amazon account. Here are five reasons why I think this new technology is such a great tool for the 21st century. I believe modern audiobooks will help millions more people succeed and have better lives in this and future generations.

  1. Audiobooks help people who aren’t the best readers.

It’s estimated that approximately 32 million adults in the United States have trouble reading or never learned how. Audiobooks allow this group of people to absorb information and get motivation by simply listening to a speaking voice. It’s almost like sitting in a lecture hall listening to a professor teach (but at a very tiny fraction of the tuition cost of course).

  1. Audiobooks give your eyes a much-needed rest.

550501_96602627 (Small)In the course of an average day, how often are your eyes looking at a computer screen or straining to read small printed words? eBooks can be the most tiring on the eyes because of the bright light from your e-reader’s screen. Audiobooks give your eyes a break — instead of scanning a page, you can close your eyes and allow the message or story to enter your mind.

  1. Listening to an audiobook allows you to multitask.

One of my favorite things about audiobooks is that I can multitask while “reading.” Whenever it’s time to vacuum my home or go on a long drive, I have my Audible audiobook queued up and ready to go. Since it’s on my cellphone, I can just plug it into my car with an auxiliary cord and press play.

  1. Audiobooks are good for the environment.

As much as I love the feeling of having a physical book in my hand at times and turning the pages, I can’t deny how much printed books use up paper and ink resources. My office is full of books that I’ve read and probably will never read again. With an audiobook you can consume a book once if you want, then close it and it’s stored in digital memory. If you ever want to tidy up your “library” you can just delete old books from your accounts digital storage when you want. The more people who opt for online audiobooks, the less demand for paper, which will eventually lead to more trees saved each year. If you are passionate about the Green movement or need a new initiative for your group, encourage audiobooks as an alternative way to read.

  1. Audiobooks are a source of relaxation and inspiration.

There are some audiobooks that I love to play over and over again simply because of the narrator’s voice. The voice of an audiobook narrator can soothe you to sleep (for me, that’s Louise Hay and Rhonda Byrne) or inspire you to action (Les Brown and Earl Nightingale). You just sit or lay back, put your headphones on and enjoy. I like to listen to a good audiobook first thing when I get up in the morning — that way I start off the day with a positive or relaxed mindset.

These reasons and more are why I’m passionate about spreading the word about the benefits of reading audio books. I use Audible because they’re an Amazon company and I can login using my Amazon account. They also have a convenient app for my Android phone and gave me a free audiobook when I first signed up for the service.

If you have trouble reading books or finding the time and motivation to read, try an audiobook today. Reading a new online audio book each month can educate, entertain, motivate and inspire you to get to a better place in your life, as it has done for me.

How I Fell in Love with Audiobooks

March 14, 2015 By LovingOurHome.com Leave a Comment

As a Generation X person, I am doing my best to stay up to date with today’s advancing technology.  I realize that if I don’t, it may be harder to catch up later on.  So my latest tech endeavor was to learn more about how to use audiobooks on my phone and computer instead of buying books.  After getting familiar with the Audible.com site, I found that modern audiobooks are a very affordable and useable way to get motivation, inspiration and entertainment on a daily basis.

My First Audiobook

My first audiobook purchase was a crime drama novel.  It was about 3 hours long and kept my attention.  I quickly realized that the narrator’s voice was important to assisting my imagination.  When I am listening to a book, I like to let my imagination run wild to create what I think is happening in each scene, and what the characters look like.

Multitasking while “Reading”

The next benefit that I found about audiobooks is that they allowed me to Listening to Audiobookmulti-task.  I could do other things while listening, whereas with a paperback I have to stop everything and focus on the pages. For instance, I can listen to an audio book on my phone using the Audible app on my daily journey to work or during a workout.  It helps me to relax while in traffic or while in the presence of others.  When I get home, I can listen to the book while I prepare my dinner.  And of course, now my absolute favorite pastime on weekends is to listen to my book while I tidy up my house.

A Break for the Eyes

headphonesThe third thing that attracted me to audiobooks is that it gives my eyes a rest. I find that after working and staring at a computer for eight hours, my eyes are so tired of focusing.  With an audio version, I now just get comfortable on my sofa, put on a pair of headphones, close my eyes and enjoy the story.  It really helps me to unwind after a difficult or stressing day at work.

Instant Gift Idea

Audiobooks also make great last minute gifts. You can either send a membership to someone who really enjoys reading novels or inspirational and motivational books, or you can pick one book that they’ll like and send it to them instantly (when checking out, just click “buy for a friend.”)  The Audible site allows you to send the gift via email so that the recipient can download and listen to the book instantly. With a paperback version she would have to wait days or even weeks to get the gift.

I’ve learned that I can save a lot of money and time by simply sending the people I love audiobooks as gifts, which makes my life a lot easier around the holidays. The trick is finding a book title that they will really love.

In summary, I most definitely recommend learning how to use audiobooks on Audible.  It has brought relaxation to my daily routine.  It’s simple to use and can be enjoyed with ease by readers of all ages.

Ways to Get Out of a Slump

June 28, 2014 By LovingOurHome.com Leave a Comment

We all have bad days. At times, we face a period of days or weeks that get the best of us. For myself, a knee injury set me back and put me in a slump for a couple of months. I struggled but have found a few ways to get back to feeling like myself again.

Try Switching to Healthier Food Options
If you drink coffee with cream and sugar daily, like I did. Stop!! Instead, try drinking a hot cup of green tea with no additives. Green tea is full of antioxidants that does your body well. Also, give a smoothie or protein shake a try, rather than a breakfast bagel. For lunch, ditch the fast food menus. Try cooking at home a healthy, grilled chicken salad with a vinegar based dressing. As for dinner, switch from eating pasta to enjoying grilled fish with steamed veggies of your choice. By me making these simple adjustments to my eating habits, I felt re-energized and motivated to get out of my slump.

Drink Lots of Water
If you are a daily soda drinker, swap to a flavored seltzer water instead. The seltzer water gives you that same burst of carbonation as does soda but with no empty calories. In between drinking seltzer try consuming 8 glasses of water, daily. When your body is properly hydrated, you should automatically start to feel better. It is also, excellent for your digestive system. Your skin will look and feel better, too.

Get Some Fresh Air And Exercise
Simply taking a walk can be a mood enhancer. It releases the “feel good” endorphins in your brain. In the morning or after dinner, go for a twenty minute walk, for starters. If you are able to have a friend, pet or partner to walk with you and enjoy the fresh air, it would be beneficial. By walking with others, holds you accountable to someone other than yourself. If there is no one available to walk with you, walk by yourself. Using an MP3 player to listen to music, with one earpiece in (for safety) can be very relaxing while walking.

I did exactly what I wrote about and feel great. It was challenging at first, yet, overall the results are outstanding. My mood has changed and it has helped me to get out of my slump. I hope these tips helps someone to get out of their slump, as well.

4 Tips to Wake Yourself Up in the Morning

Everyone has those mornings when they just don’t feel like getting up out of the bed. Maybe it’s because you had a hard night of partying the night before. Maybe it’s because you only fell asleep two hours before the alarm clock went off. In my case it’s usually because I’m stuck in a really good dream that I just don’t want to end.

But you do have to get up at some point to get things done. So here are a few tips for how to inspire yourself out of the bed on these tough mornings. Up and at em!

Wake Up to an Audiobook
I adore audiobooks. I am listening to an audiobook now while writing this blog post. Audiobooks can inspire educate and motivate you which is why it’s a great way to wake yourself up in the morning. When your alarm clock goes off, press snooze once and immediately turn on your favorite audiobook. Loud.

Check Your Email
The great thing about smart phones is that you receive your emails all day long even while you’re sleeping. One way that I get alert enough to wake up on a tough morning is to wrap my smart phone and start browsing the emails that I’ve received thus far. You may see in email that is urgent or important enough to make you sit up and started doing some work.

Talk to God / The Universe
Another great way to wake yourself up in the morning is to have a conversation with a higher power, which I call God. Even if you’re not a “religious” person, you can still have a conversation with the Universe or yourself about what you want to accomplish that day. Say positive affirmations out loud about how great everything will be — you might be surprised when it comes true.

Call or Text Someone You Love
One of the best ways to get inspired to get up out of bed in the morning — even when you’ve just had a tough night — is to call or text someone you love (who is likely to respond of course) and start a conversation. A laugh, joke or news from a loved one is just what you need to break free from the dream world and start your day.

Try out these tips to wake yourself up in the morning. Sleep is awesome, but when you wake up bright and early to start your day you feel encouraged, motivated and energized.
